Owaisi demands release of Muslim child, his elderly grandfather

Patna, September 13, 2022 (PPI-OT):Days after an eight-year-old Muslim boy along with his seventy-year-old grandfather was arrested following anti-Muslim violence in Siwan area of the Indian state of Bihar, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi asked the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy, Tejashwi Yadav, when they would be released from jail.

Owaisi, who is also the member of Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian Parliament, from Hyderabad, took to his Twitter and said, “We want neither secularism nor power. We want respect. Rizwan, 8, has been in jail for the last 4 days. How can you ignore his mother’s helplessness? @yadavtejashwi @NitishKumar Why is Rizwan being treated like this? When will our Rizwan be released?”

In another Tweet that came soon after the minor’s arrest, Owaisi said, “Had the boy been from the same caste of @CMBiharNK or Health Ministers caste he wouldn’t have been treated like a animal? Remember the name is Rizwan, an 8 years old”.

On Saturday, the clashes erupted after Hindutva men wearing saffron shawls pelted stones and yelled communal slogans during a Hindu procession in Siwan prompting the arrest of many Muslims including Rizwan and his grandfather. The march, which passed near a mosque, was made up of saffron-clad males who were armed with clubs and yelled communal sentiments. They also pelted stones at the houses of Muslims and the mosque, leading to clashes.
