Pairwan condemns locking of historic Jamia Masjid

Srinagar, May 17, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chief Patron of Pairwan-e-Wilayet, Maulana Sibti Mohammad Shabir Qummi, has strongly condemned the locking down of historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar and said that not allowing Friday prayers there in the month of Ramadan is hurting the sentiments of the people.

Maulana Qummi in a statement issued in Srinagar said locking down the biggest mosque of the valley in the holy month of Ramadan and disallowing thousands of Muslims to pray there reflect the utter disdain of the Indian rulers for the Kashmiri people’s religious rights. The authorities had locked down the Jamia Masjid and also imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city, today, to thwart anti-India protests against the recent wave of killing in the territory.

Hailing the response of the Kashmiris to the shutdown call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership, he urged them to exhibit unity and follow the programs of the leadership in letter and spirit. He also thanked imams and khatibs of the occupied territory for raising their voice against the bloodshed in their Friday sermons.
