The federal government reaffirmed its commitment to improving the ease of doing business in Pakistan during a highlevel meeting held at the Board of Investment (BOI) Karachi office on Thursday.
The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for BOI Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh, focused on reviewing the progress of the Pakistan Regulatory Modernization Initiative (PRMI) across provinces and enhancing intergovernmental coordination to support business growth.
Senior officials from the federal and provincial governments, including the CEO of the Pakistan Business Council, the Special Secretary of Industries from Punjab, the Secretary of the Sindh Investment and Trade Department, and representatives of the Sindh Investment Board, attended the session.
The meeting highlighted ongoing regulatory reforms, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, aimed at simplifying business procedures and eliminating bureaucratic barriers. The Secretary of Investment from Sindh briefed participants on the province’s onestop service initiative, which is designed to streamline approvals and facilitate investors through a centralized digital platform.
Officials noted the need for harmonization of laws across provinces, reduction of redundant regulations, and increased cooperation between federal and provincial agencies. Participants also emphasized support for small businesses and the importance of aligning technical training programmes with market needs.
The federal minister commended the efforts of provincial governments and private sector representatives, stating that continued collaboration was essential for sustaining reform momentum. He underscored the importance of holding regular consultative sessions to maintain engagement from all stakeholders and to build an efficient and inclusive investment ecosystem.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on accelerating reforms under the PRMI framework and pursuing further digital integration to reduce compliance costs for businesses.
