Pakistan and Australia have agreed to bolster collaboration to prevent illegal immigration, marking a significant development in a high-level virtual meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Australian counterpart, Tony Burke, on Friday.
The two ministers engaged in comprehensive discussions covering matters of mutual interest and security cooperation. A key outcome of their dialogue was a shared commitment to developing stronger mechanisms to curb illicit human movement between the two countries.
To formalize and advance these joint efforts, the formation of a dedicated working group was decided upon. This group will aim to further strengthen bilateral security ties across various domains.
The dialogue also explored enhancing the capabilities of Pakistani law enforcement. The ministers discussed potential training programs for police and paramilitary officers and increased partnership between Australian agencies and Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Separately, the upcoming tour of the Australian cricket team to Pakistan was a point of discussion. Minister Naqvi provided a briefing on the extensive security arrangements being put in place for the visiting team and extended an official invitation for Minister Burke to visit Pakistan.
Concluding the meeting, both officials reaffirmed their dedication to further strengthening the diplomatic and security relationship between their respective nations.
