(Pakistan calls for fully equipped global health security framework)

ISLAMABAD:At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for a fully equipped and adequately resourced global health security framework that responds effectively to future pandemics.

The suggestion was put forth by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Khalil Hashmi, during a special three-day meeting of the World Health Organization’s governing body in Geneva. He said coronavirus pandemic has exposed the fragilities and gaps in the existing global health security architecture.

The Pakistan envoy said the special session of the World Health Assembly is therefore significant in charting a path, towards a robust, resilient, equitable and effective international response to prevent, prepare for and respond to future pandemics.
