Pakistan ends 6th at Youth Olympics Qualifiers

Lahore, April 29, 2018 (PPI-OT): Pakistan lost to Japan 5-7 in the play off for the fifth/sixth position in the Asian hockey qualifiers for the Youth Olympics in Bangkok, Thailand. It was an interesting battle throughout. With just two minutes left in the 30 minute match, the two sides were tied at 5-5.

Japanese boys scored twice to emerge 7-5 victors and thus finish 5th in the 11 team event. India and Malaysia have qualified from here for the Youth Olympics scheduled in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 6-18.

Pakistan: Murtaza Yaqoob 2, Zulqarnain, Mohammad Waqas and Mohsin Khan

Japan: Jun Nakhana 3, Kazumasa Matsumoto, Yudai Furukawa, Kazuva Tanikawa and Niwa Takuma, Murtaza Yaqoob, with 13 goals, ended Pakistan’s top scorer at this tournament.
