Pakistan expresses concern over global resurgence in intolerance

Islamabad, November 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): Voicing concern over rising Islamophobia in the world, Pakistan has urged the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to take urgent steps to instill a better understanding of the dangers of incitement to hatred and discrimination based on one’s religion.

During a debate on the annual report of the 47-member Human Rights Council in Geneva, Pakistan Representative Qasim Aziz said stoking Islamophobic hysteria not only undermines the freedom of religion of Muslims but also poses serious challenges to the societal cohesion and democratic credentials of our societies. He expressed concern over global resurgence in intolerance, discrimination, racism and violence against minorities and other vulnerable groups in many countries.
