Karachi, November 13, 2018 (PPI-OT): 36TH Pakistan International Carpet Exhibition (PICE) 2018 successfully closed on 19th October 2018 here in Lahore. This specialized three days fair was inaugurated on 17th October, 2018 in Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore. Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) joined hands to attract around 100 top buyers from around the world. The fair was made colourful by 50 exhibitors who displayed top quality hand-knotted carpets of latest designs to cater to the consumer preferences of different markets like USA, EU, and other regions.
The success of the event can be gauged from the export orders delivered during 03 days which stood at around US$ 20 million. Mr. Qamar Zia Chairman PICE 2018 stated that these export orders would attract more demand for Pakistani carpets in coming days. The event not only generated sizeable export orders but also helped in dispelling a negative image of Pakistan around the world as the foreign visitors who attended the fair found the business and security environment in Pakistan quite satisfactory.
While addressing a gathering of top management of the PCMEA, foreign buyers and exhibitors, Mr. Riaz Ahmad, Director General TDAP applauded the efforts of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) on successfully organization of PICE 2018. He reaffirmed TDAP’s resolve to stand with the Association for revival of Made in Pakistan hand-knotted carpet in the world market.
Moreover, he underscored the need of readjustment and restructuring of production processes to add variations in products to compete neighbouring countries especially India. All the exhibitors extended their gratitude to Mr. Rafeo Shah, Secretary TDAP and Mr. Riaz Ahmad for their incessant support to the industry.
Mr. Ijaz-ur-Rehman, Sr. Vice Chairman PCMEA appreciated the support extended by TDAP for organizing the event as it provides an impetus to diminishing demand of Pakistani carpet in international market. The feedback of buyers also helped the industry in gearing up for new trends and manufacturing techniques in international market which would help in regaining the glory of Pakistan’s hand-knotted carpet in the world.
