The Pakistan-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) is pushing for the establishment of a corresponding body in Canada to strengthen inter-governmental relations. During a meeting at Parliament House on Wednesday, PFG Convener Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi emphasized the need for this reciprocal group as a crucial foundation for formal parliamentary connections. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada briefed the group on the present state of relations, focusing on trade and economic partnerships.
Ms. Fatemi stressed the significance of continuous interaction and greater institutional collaboration between the two parliaments to solidify the relationship. The group advocated for increased parliamentary delegations, interpersonal connections, and cultural exchange. Members also highlighted the value of student exchange programs, expanded scholarship opportunities, sports diplomacy, and youth development programs in fostering closer cooperation.
The PFG reiterated its dedication to promoting Pakistan-Canada relations through active parliamentary diplomacy and practical collaboration across various sectors. Attending the session were PFG members including Syed Naveed Qamar (virtually), Ms. Nuzhat Sadiq, Barrister Danyal Chaudhary, Ms. Zeb Jaffar, Ms. Asia Naz Tanoli, Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro (virtually), Muhammad Khan Daha (virtually), Ms. Shagufta Jumani, Dr. Nelson Azeem (virtually), Mr. Naveed Aamir Jeeva, Malik Awais Jakhar (virtually), Ms. Huma Akhtar Chughtai, and Ms. Erum Hamid Hameed (virtually).
