Pakistan and the World Bank have pledged to work in close collaboration to operationalize the 10year Country Partnership Framework (CPF), a strategic initiative aimed at fostering a resilient partnership for Pakistan”s sustainable development.
This commitment was articulated during a meeting on Thursday between Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, and a World Bank delegation led by Managing Director Operations, Anna Bjerde.
The meeting primarily concentrated on enhancing bilateral cooperation, evaluating the World Bank”s financing portfolio, and expediting the CPF”s implementation. Discussions also targeted priority areas under the CPF, emphasizing climate resilience and population management.
Both parties acknowledged the CPF as an essential instrument for promoting sustainable development and securing longterm economic stability in Pakistan. Anna Bjerde praised the Pakistani government for its steadfast commitment to critical reforms and its proactive approach towards climate action, aligning economic growth with environmental sustainability.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated the government”s dedication to the CPF, emphasizing the integration of climate resilience and sustainable development into economic planning. He noted collaborative efforts among various ministries to establish a strong implementation framework.
The Minister urged the World Bank to provide technical guidance and assistance to streamline processes and ensure a focused rollout of the CPF. In response, Anna Bjerde assured the World Bank”s comprehensive support to help Pakistan achieve the CPF”s objectives and expressed readiness to enhance engagement in key reform areas such as taxation, energy, and social protection.
