Pakistan’s conduct as nuclear state will continue to be defined by restraint, responsibility: Foreign Minister

Islamabad, May 28, 2020 (PPI-OT): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says Pakistan is a peace-loving country and our conduct as a nuclear weapon state will continue to be defined by restraint and responsibility. Addressing the webinar to mark Yaum-e-Takbeer in Islamabad today, he said we are opposed to a nuclear or conventional arms race in the region. He said Pakistan has demonstrated its commitment to peace and stability by putting forward the proposal for a Strategic Restraint Regime.

The Foreign Minister said yet our desire for peace should not leave anyone in doubt regarding our capability and we will defend ourselves effectively against any form of aggression. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the recent escalation along the Line of Control, incessant ceasefire violations and the canard of cross-border infiltration are designed to divert international attention from the gross human rights violations by Indian occupation forces in occupied Kashmir.

He said the BJP government’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August last year was in an attempt to change the internationally-recognized disputed status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and alter its demographic structure in flagrant violation of the UN Security Council resolutions, UN Charter and bilateral agreements.

Armed forces salute all those involved in making this possible: ISPRDG ISPR Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar says on 28th May 1998, Pakistan successfully established credible minimum nuclear deterrence and restored balance of power in the region. In a tweet on Youme Takbeer, he said armed forces salute all those involved from conceptualization to actualization especially scientists and engineers who made this possible.
