Patients suffer due to protest of hospital staff
KARACHI: Patients faced problems at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases as a group of doctors and paramedical staff had boycotted duties – except emergency duties– to protest against non-payment of their salaries. They also blocked road causing gridlock for traffic and ambulances.
Due to the protest many patients at the OPDs returned home without being examined while many tests including x-rays and ultrasounds were also suspended.
The protestors were of the view that they have not received their salaries for the past four months and despite passing of five years, their jobs were yet to be regularized.
They said that despite repeated assurances from the administration, their demands were ending on deaf ears therefore they were forced to protest.
Later, on assurance from Director Health Services Karachi Nasir Javed, they called off their protest.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Nadeem Rajput told PPI that due to shortage of staff in OPD the patient had to suffer while the present staff at that time provided medical facilities to the patients.
He assured the protestors that their salaries of last two months were being released immediately remaining salaries would soon be paid.
