PBC undertakes restructuring of its workforce: Spokesperson

Islamabad, October 21, 2020 (PPI-OT):PBC is facing a budget deficit of Rs. 942.887 million during the current fiscal year 2020-21. The annual emoluments of the contractual staff to the tune of Rs.181.752 million are being paid from the Program, News and Current Affairs production expenses. Keeping in view PBC’s financial constraints the management reviewed the existing human resource and decided that under the current circumstances it is not possible for the organization to continue to utilize the services of contractual staff under the present terms and conditions.

An exercise was conducted to review the existing manpower working in Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation which includes regular, contractual, daily wages and those working under fee structure. The purpose of this exercise was to ascertain the needs in keeping with the financial position being faced by PBC. After considerable deliberations it was decided that the present practice of employing on contract basis be replaced by hiring their services on fee structure.

The decision has been taken to streamline the workforce and ensure that non-regular persons working with PBC have a uniform pay structure. However, they will remain in PBC’s talent pool of Program, News and Current Affairs and their services may be utilized on as and when required basis and as per PBC’s approved fee structure.

PBC management is also planning to reconsider the fee structure so as to attract the best talent to work for the national broadcaster.
