PITB’s automated Dealers Vehicle Registration System generates Rs1.4b revenue

Lahore, November 07, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s automated Dealers Vehicle Registration System (DVRS) developed for the Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ETN and C) generated revenue worth Rs.1.4 Billion (Rs. 1,422,735,907/-) on account of 293,209 vehicles registration by 73 authorized dealers across the province of the Punjab. The vehicles registered under DVRS include 291532 motorcycles/ scooters, motor cars 103391, rickshaw 2756, wagon 268, pickups 258, tractors 32 and double cabin (Luxury) 29.

In order to streamline the process of registration of motor vehicles in Punjab, a centralized system “Dealer Vehicle Registration System” was introduced in August 2016. An interface of the system was provided to selected vehicle dealers all over Punjab whereby the vehicle is registered and number plate issued at the dealer before it leaves the showroom. This not only facilitated the citizens in avoiding the cumbersome process of getting the vehicle registered standing in long queues at the Motor Vehicle Registration office but also streamlined the entire process and enhancing the government revenue.

The DVRS has simplified and improved the vehicle registration process with transparency and efficiency to facilitate the people in all 36 districts across the Punjab Province. In the old system, the user had to visit multiple times to the excise office, submit the documents to get the vehicle registered. Now the vehicle can be registered at the time of buying by the dealer itself in the centralized system provided to them.
