Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today emphasized the need for the timely implementation and completion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, underscoring their importance for Pakistan’s economic progress. He conveyed these remarks while meeting Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, who paid a courtesy call on him in Islamabad.

Sharif extended warm greetings and good wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He also congratulated the Chinese leadership and nation on the successful convening of the ‘Two Sessions’ of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Discussing the Pakistan-China bilateral strategic partnership, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over its positive trajectory, highlighting the significance of President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to Beijing. He thanked China for its steadfast support on Pakistan’s key issues and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering backing for China’s core interests. He emphasized that both nations remain committed to strengthening the ‘All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership’ and taking their relations to new heights.

Security and counter-terrorism cooperation between the two countries also came under discussion during the meeting.

The Prime Minister noted that this year marks the tenth anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Pakistan in 2015. He directed officials to ensure that this milestone is celebrated in a befitting manner and reiterated his invitation for President Xi to undertake a state visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s warm sentiments and updated him on the latest developments in Pakistan-China bilateral cooperation. He acknowledged the government’s efforts in improving Pakistan’s macroeconomic situation and assured that China would continue to support Pakistan in its development initiatives.
