PMA condemns vandalism in CHK

Karachi:Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) in a release here Saturday condemned the violent attack by a mob at Civil Hospital Karachi on 29th May, 2020.

The release said the sad incident took place after a coronavirus patient died during treatment. The mob attacked the medical staff on duty and took the body of the deceased from the emergency ward. The mob did not want the medical staff to adopt required SOPs before handing over the dead body to the deceased’s family. Unfortunately, this is third incident in a week. Just few days back this kind of incidents of violence took place in Jinnah Hospital Karachi and at another private hospital. PMA has been receiving information of such incidents from all over Pakistan.

PMA said it is entirely the responsibility of the government to provide security to the doctors. We once again request the government to protect the doctors on priority basis. Security of doctors is a very serious issue we have been continuously raising our voice and recently we have written letters to the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan and to the Chief Ministers of all provinces requesting them to provide security to the doctors.

This is very unfortunate that people are attacking and harassing doctors at a time when they are fighting against coronavirus at the risk of their lives. They are serving the nation with dedication and hard work at this hard time. If these brutal attacks remain continue in future and doctors are not protected, we reserve the right to chalk out our future strategy because violence against doctors is not acceptable to PMA, the release concluded.
