ISLAMABAD:The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) on Friday named Hussain Elahi for the post of Leader of Opposition in National Assembly.

A written request has been submitted to National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf. The written request has been has been signed by PML-Q lawmakers Moonis Elahi, Farah Khan, and Hussain Elahi himself. The seat fell vacant after the ex-opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif became prime minister. Shehbaz Sharif formed a new government that can remain in place until the upcoming election.

Imran Khan attempted to block a previous attempt to bring a no-confidence motion against him by dissolving parliament and calling for a snap election. However, the country’s Supreme Court upheld an opposition petition that his actions were unconstitutional and ordered the no-confidence vote to go ahead.
