Police arrest Malik, other Hurriyat leaders in Srinagar

Srinagar, February 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested several Hurriyat leaders including Muhammad Yasin Malik after they took out a protest march in Srinagar, today, to demand the release of Kashmiri political prisoners.

A large number of Hurriyat leaders and activists, led by Muhammad Yasin Malik, assembled at Aabi Guzar in Srinagar and staged a demonstration against the continued detention of Kashmiri political prisoners languishing in different jails of the occupied territory and India. The protest was held under the auspices of the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik

As the protesters tried to march towards Lal Chowk, Indian police took Muhammad Yasin Malik and other Hurriyat leaders and activists into custody and lodged them at Kothi Bagh police station.

Before his detention, Yasin Malik while talking to the reporters said that some prisoners had spent over two decades in various jails. “They should be released,” he demanded.

He urged the United Nation Human Rights Council and other human rights organisations to focus their attention on the issue and ask for the release of all political prisoners.

Meanwhile, the police arrested the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, Molvi Bashir Ahmed Irfani, from his residence and shifted him to some unknown location.
