Police baton-charge protesting nurses in Karachi

KARACHI: The police baton-charged protesting SPSC written test passed contract nurses as they tried to march towards Sindh Assembly for their regularization on Tuesday.

A female staff nurse injured during protest and her leg was also broken while several other were also received injuries due to police baton charge. The protest demonstration was held under the banner of COVID-19 Nurses Alliance Sindh.

They protesters were carrying and placards inscribed with different slogans like; justice for nurses, regularization of nurses, fulfill promise made with nurses and others. The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) written test passed nurses who were hired by Sindh Health Department contract basis to fight against Coronavirus has staged protest demonstration for their regularization.

The protesters said SPSC written test passed nurses was hired for COVID-19 emergency duties and nurses are working in isolation wards round the clock in three shifts. They are not regularized on their posts yet and authorities concerned has failed to fulfill promise made these nurses despite the lapse of several months.

Later, a six-member delegation of nurses met with Secretary Health Sindh and others at Sindh Secretariate. The protesters end their protest demonstration on the assurance of Secretary Health Sindh.
