Power Minister Orders Single-Point Electricity Supply For Special Economic Zones

Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari today mandated all electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to immediately finalize contracts for providing power and billing to Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Industrial Estates through a single-point system.

In a Friday announcement, Leghari stated these contracts must adhere to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA)”s guidelines. The minister also directed the DISCOs to promptly engage with the respective zone authorities.

He believes this measure will boost industrial and commercial development, improve transparency in electricity provision and billing procedures, and eradicate unnecessary meddling and graft within the distribution utilities.
