Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, in his meeting with the JUIF delegation led by Provincial President Maulana Abdul Qayoom Halejvi and Secretary General Allama Rashid Soomro, discussed pressing issues impacting Sindh, focusing on water scarcity and security concerns in the province.

The meeting was held at the CM House, in which, at the outset, both the leaders exchanged thanks and greetings to the leadership of each other’s party in the passage of the 26th Amendment in the Constitution. ‘The political wisdom of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and JUIF Chief Maulana Fazal Rehman made it possible, otherwise things were not moving well.

The meeting was attended by Minister PandD Nasir Shah and Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar.

Acknowledging Sindh’s severe water shortage, both sides concurred that the construction of any new canals from the River Indus would not be feasible. This agreement underscores the province’s already strained water resources, making further canal projects unsustainable. During the meeting, the leaders expressed gratitude to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and JUIF Chief Maulana Fazal Rehman for their political acumen in facilitating the 26th Amendment’s recent passage in the Constitution.

The JUIF leaders Maulana Halaejvi and Rashid Soomro extended an invitation to the chief minister and PPP members to participate in an upcoming multiparty conference on water scarcity aimed at addressing current concerns over water availability and discussing proposed canal projects. CM Shah accepted the invitation, reiterating his government’s strong opposition to further canals and noting that letters had already been sent to the federal government requesting a reassessment of the proposed projects. ‘We are presenting our case at all relevant forums,’ Mr Shah said, in the hope that the federal government will consider the gravity of Sindh’s water shortage.

In the meeting, they discussed security issues in the Kutcha areas of the Sukkur and Larkana divisions, where a significant operation against dacoits is underway. CM Murad Shah stressed the need to intensify these efforts, directing Home Minister Zia Lanjar to accelerate the operation and engage support from local political parties and notable figures to bolster community resistance against criminal groups.

In the meeting, both PPP and JUIF leaders agreed to work together for the welfare of the people of the province, strengthen further harmony and develop community initiatives, affirming their shared dedication to addressing the province’s pressing challenges.
