Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh said on Sunday that PPP had been looting Sindh’s resources for 17 years.
“PPP has deprived the people of even basic facilities. In its quest for power, the PPP has orchestrated the plundering of Sindh’s water,” he said while addressed the media at Adil House in Karachi. Mr Sheikh emphasized that the ongoing awareness march from Hyderabad, led by the parties in the Save Sindhu River Movement, was gaining success. ‘We will inform the public about how the PPP is squandering Sindh’s resources.’
Sheikh highlighted that while Sindh had already suffered from water scarcity, the PPP had now played a significant role in blocking the Indus iver’s water, further exacerbating the crisis. “After the destruction of education, healthcare, and infrastructure, the PPP has now played a part in shutting off Sindh’s water,” he added.
The PTI Sindh chief affirmed that PTI stood firmly by the people of Sindh and would not allow the usurpation of the province’s water resources. Sheikh said that PPP had played a key role in six new canals project on the Sindhu River. The people of Sindh were demanding accountability from the PPP, Sheikh said. “Despite billions in the provincial budget, basic facilities are still out of reach for the public.”
Sheikh also criticized the incumbent rulers, stating that due to their incompetence, inflation was at an all-time high. Furthermore, the prices of medicines had increased by 300%, further burdening the public. “The people are fed up with these corrupt rulers. Their time is running out, and soon, justice will prevail,” he observed.
On the political front, Sheikh spoke about the ongoing oppression of PTI leaders, stating that the entire province of Sindh, like the rest of Pakistan, demands an explanation for why the use of force against them was necessary. ‘Why are we being subjected to restrictions and why are our workers, including Imran Khan, still not released?’ Sheikh questioned, adding that Imran Khan, a great leader of the Muslim world, is currently imprisoned for the sake of the future of the nation’s children. “We have endured a lot; we have been treated unjustly and have been subjected to terrorist-like treatment,” he said.
“Despite Karachi is contributing 65% of the country’s tax revenue and 90% of the province’s revenue, its citizens are still deprived of basic facilities, including drinking water. The people of Karachi voted for PTI, but through a conspiracy and false claims in Form 47, our mandate was stolen,’ the PTI Sindh president concluded.
