Spokesperson to the Karachi Mayor and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peopless Party (PPP) in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi, said on Monday that the PPP had dedicated itself tirelessly to the development of Karachi, the provision of modern infrastructure, and world-class civic facilities for citizens.
He stated that under the leadership of Syed Murad Ali Shah and Barrister Murtaza Wahab, record development work was underway across Karachi, while continuous efforts were being made day and night to permanently resolve the city’s longstanding issues.
He said that the regular visits by the Chief Minister of Sindh to the BRT Red Line and Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway projects clearly demonstrated the Sindh government’s commitment to Karachi’s development and public relief. According to Waqasi, the Chief Minister had directed all concerned departments to further accelerate construction activities, immediately remove obstacles, and ensure the early provision of improved transportation facilities for citizens.
Waqasi stated that the Chief Minister had acknowledged the difficulties faced by citizens due to prolonged development activities and emphasized that significant improvements in traffic management, drainage systems, and road restoration must be achieved within the next three months. He added that Syed Murad Ali Shah’s fourth visit to the BRT Red Line project within a single week reflects the Sindh government’s direct monitoring to ensure the timely completion of the project.
He further said that the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing construction work from Dawood Engineering University to NIPA, Civic Center, Urdu University, and the Old Sabzi Mandi area. During the visit, Trans Karachi CEO Zubair Channa briefed officials on mixed traffic lanes, drainage systems, water line shifting, and utility relocation. Asphalt patchwork on mixed traffic lanes from Numaish to Mosamiyat has already been completed, while work on subgrade preparation, aggregate base installation, drainage pipelines, and water line shifting is progressing rapidly. The relocation of the 48-inch diameter water line has entered its final phase, while over 63 percent work on the main MS water line has been completed.
The spokesperson to the Mayor of Karachi said that development activities are progressing rapidly at various locations, including UK Apartments, Mumtaz Manzil, the Mosamiyat Flyover, and the Karachi University U-turn. Special measures are also being implemented around NIPA to widen roads and improve traffic flow. The Chief Minister has additionally directed authorities to control dust pollution through regular water sprinkling at construction sites and to introduce extra night shifts for drainage-related projects.
Waqasi stated that the BRT Red Line would lay the foundation for Karachi’s modern transportation system, while the Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway would bring a historic transformation to the city’s traffic network. Construction work is moving swiftly on various projects, including the Azeempura Flyover, Dumlottee and Damba Goth interchanges, while 93 percent physical work on the Shahrah-e-Bhutto project has already been completed. He added that the Sindh government is also working on a project linking Karachi Port to Shahrah-e-Bhutto in order to provide citizens with faster and more modern transportation facilities.
He said that under the leadership of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was establishing special beautification zones across the city, while green belts, landscaping, and eco-friendly infrastructure were being promoted. Directions have also been issued to complete drainage systems, road rehabilitation, and other development projects before the upcoming monsoon season.
Waqasi further stated that under the vision of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, work on the Industrial Water Park project is progressing rapidly to address the water crisis in Karachi’s industrial areas. The modern water treatment plant at SITE TP-1 has started trial operations, while the inauguration of the first phase of the 35 million gallon water treatment project is expected on June 30. He said that 5,000 trees had already been planted at the Industrial Water Park, and the water recycling initiative would prove to be a historic step for Karachi’s industries.
Rejecting statements made by leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, Waqasi said the party was attempting to mislead the public through political point-scoring, publicity campaigns, and baseless allegations. He maintained that the people of Karachi were fully aware that the ongoing mega projects, flyovers, expressways, modern transport systems, beautification drives, and infrastructure improvements were achievements made possible only under the leadership of the Pakistan People’sParty. He added that Jamaat-e-Islami leaders are resorting to negative politics to conceal their political failures, while the Sindh government and KMC were delivering practical results on the ground.
Waqasi concluded by saying that the people of Karachi now believed in performance rather than slogans, which was why the city was rapidly moving towards development, prosperity, and modern urban facilities under the leadership of the PPP. He reaffirmed that the Sindh government and KMC would continue their efforts for Karachi’s brighter future, improved infrastructure, and a world-class urban system.
