Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh’s Spokesperson, Senator Ajiz Dhamrah, today expressed serious concerns over the federal government’s plan to construct six new canals without consulting the Sindh government.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, he warned that initiating such projects without considering the needs of downstream provinces would undermine Sindh’s water rights.
Accompanied by Government of Sindh Spokesperson Syeda Tehseen Abidi, Government Spokesperson Abdul Waheed Halepoto, and PPP leader Asif Khan, Dhamrah underscored that Sindh is already facing a critical water shortage. He stated that bypassing provincial consultation on water-related projects is a violation of constitutional principles.
Syeda Tehseen Abidi highlighted that excluding Sindh from this decision is unjust and unacceptable. She reiterated that the Sindh government will not endorse any project that impacts its share of water.
The party leaders urged the federal government to ensure that all water distribution decisions follow constitutional guidelines and are made through interprovincial consultation. They called for an immediate resolution of Sindh’s longstanding concerns over water resources.
