Srinagar, March 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, in yet another move to spread waywardness among the local youth, establishment of new liquor outlets has been encouraged under President’s rule in the territory. The rule has been promulgated in the name of a new excise policy, which was made applicable in the occupied territory, last month, and will remain in force till 2020.
Under the policy, any new liquor vends will be allowed to come up at a minimum distance of 100 meters from religious places, schools, hospitals, and nearest liquor shops as against 300 meters minimum distance in the earlier excise policy.
“New liquor vends shall be at a minimum distance of 100 meters from religious places, schools, hospitals, nearest liquor shops and in conformity with the provisions of the JandK Excise Act, 1958 and Liquor License and Sale Rules, 1984,” reads the new policy.
This move has come when there is rising demand from various religious sects and civil society groups to shut the liquor trade in the territory, especially in Kashmir valley. Karwan-e-Islami President Ghulam Rasool Hami, had even moved court for a ban on liquor in occupied Kashmir.
