Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the significant impact of family remittances on Pakistan’s economy on the occasion of the International Day of Family Remittances celebrated on Monday. The Prime Minister emphasized the central role of these funds in strengthening the country’s economic stability and development.
On this global observance, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his gratitude to Pakistanis whose remittances have reached a record $34.9 billion this fiscal year, marking a substantial increase of 28.8% compared to last year. In May 2025 alone, remittances reached $3.7 billion, which is a 13.7% increase compared to the same month last year.
More than 9 million Pakistanis residing in the Gulf, Europe, and North America are not only contributing financially but also fostering sustainable relations with their homeland. This financial support has proven crucial in strengthening Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves and aiding the government’s efforts to expand the export base and attract foreign direct investment.
The government recognizes these contributions as a fundamental pillar of Pakistan’s economic structure and is continuously engaged in enhancing economic relations with its overseas citizens to ensure long-term prosperity.
As the global economic landscape remains fraught with uncertainties, the continual increase in remittances from overseas Pakistanis presents a beacon of stability and hope. Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to address economic challenges and promote further investment and national development.
