Prime Minister Imran Khan chairs a review meeting on performance of Kissan Card in Lahore

Islamabad, August 25, 2021 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a review meeting on the performance of Kissan Card at Lahore. The meeting was attended by Special Assistants Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, Dr. Shahbaz Gill, Shehzad Akbar, Chief Minister Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar, Provincial Ministers Hashim Javan Bakht, Hussain Jahanian Gardezi and concerned senior officials.

The meeting was informed that more than 375,000 farmer cards have been issued in a short span of time and this number is increasing rapidly. Thanks to the Kisan Card, the farmers have so far made 595,000 transactions in terms of subsidy and have benefited from a total subsidy of about Rs 600 million. It is hoped that the subsidy will significantly increase cotton production this year.

The meeting was further informed that the token system is being abolished with the issuance of Kisan Card. This will enable the farmers to get their due right directly and also eliminate corruption. To provide further convenience to the farmers, supply of card reading machines to the dealers is also being ensured.

The Prime Minister said that assistance to farmers was one of the top priorities of the government. Agriculture is the backbone of the national economy. The government is implementing major reforms in the agricultural sector through the Agricultural Transformation Plan, which is fetching positive results.
