Islamabad, January 22, 2018 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi visited Monument of the Unsung Heroes of Democracy at the Parliament to pay homage to the Pakistanis who rendered sacrifices for upholding democracy and struggled for civil liberties and rights guaranteed under the Constitution.Prime Minister laid wreath on the monument while paying a visit to the monument along with Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Deputy Chairman Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Leader of the House Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul, Leader of the Opposition Ch. Aitezaz Ahsan, Parliamentary Leaders in the Senate and Secretary Senate Amjad Pervez Malik were also present on the occasion. The Prime Minister appreciated the initiative aimed at recognition of contributions and sacrifices of the unsung heroes.
While briefing the prime minister, the Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani apprised that the monument is a token of inspiration to all those who visit the Parliament and want the democratic process to continue smoothly. Raza Rabbani said that Pakistan is a democratic country and like any other county possess a long history of struggles to achieve and retain the democracy in the country.
“The political workers including common men andwomen were the vanguards in the battle against tyranny, oppression and injustice refusing to bow down to autocrats; the guardians and torch bearers of the notions of democracy and constitutionalism; and all those who struggled and strived in the face of torture and imprisonments” Raza Rabbani stated. Chairman Senate said that the landmark initiative is an iconic symbol of the struggle for democracy and is open to both foreign and domestic visitors.
