Protest in Banihal in defence of Article 35-A

Jammu, August 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a protest march was held in Banihal against the attempts being made by the BJP government to repeal Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution, which grants special status to the permanent residents of Kashmir.

The protesters said that any tinkering with this special constitutional provision would be fought tooth and nail by the people of Kashmir as such a move could pave the way to change the demographic composition of the territory.

They said that Kashmir was being singled out just to fulfill the communal agenda of BJP and RSS. They asserted that the people of Kashmir would not allow it to happen, as it would mean trampling of the constitutional guarantee held out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesters said any attempt to repeal Article 35-A will be detrimental, not only to particular region or community, but the people of all faiths, regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesters including members of civil society raised slogans in support of Article 35-A and denounced the attempts being made against it. They vowed to fight for preserving this constitutional guarantee to Jammu and Kashmir.
