Protesters attack Jang, Geo head office in Karachi


KARACHI:A group of protesters reportedly attacked the head offices of Geo News and Jang Group on Sunday and manhandled the staff present, according to a Geo News report.

Dozens of protesters broke through a walkthrough gate and entered a main gate of the office located on II Chundrigar road, said the report. Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has said that an investigation into the incident will be conducted, according to the report.

According to Bureau Chief Karachi Faheem Siddiqui, protesters attacked the building. They were enraged over a video from a Geo News programme on social media, the edited version of which has gone viral.

“What you see on social media is not how it was said on the show,” he said, adding that Geo News had also aired a clarification as well as an apology on the same show.

Anchor Irshad Bhatti from television show “Khabarnaak” clarified that his show is one of comedy and satire and “Sindh and Sindhis are part of his identity as is any other province, according to the report.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has strongly condemned the attack on Jang and Geo office in Karachi. In a statement, he termed this incident as attack on freedom of expression. He also expressed solidarity with Geo and Jang.
