Srinagar, May 29, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, more than 50 people have been injured, some of them critically, due to the use of brute force by Indian forces on peaceful protesters in Kulgam district.
People took to the streets in Tazipora-Mohammadpora area after the killing of a youth by Indian troops during a cordon and search operation in pre-dawn hours. Indian police and troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes between the demonstrators and the forces’ personnel. Over 50 persons were injured, four of them grievously, in the brutal actions of the Indian forces.
The injured were shifted to Primary Health Care (PHC) Muhammadpora and 6 of them were taken to district hospital Kulgam for treatment. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kulgam, Dr Fazil Kochak, said that 50 injured persons were received at the PHC Mohammadpora and 44 of them had minor injuries and are being treated at the health facility itself. Six injured persons, he said, have been shifted to district hospital Kulgam.
The six injured have been identified as Nadeem Ahmad (pellet injury in left eye), Nawaz Ahmad (pellet injury in right eye), Adnan (pellet injury in left eye), Yawar Ahmad (bullet injuries in abdomen), Mohsin Ahmad (pellet injuries in body) and Basit Ahmad (pellet injuries on both arms).
He said that four among the six youth have been referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment. Those referred include Nadeem, Nawaz, Adnan and Yawar. Two others namely Mohsin and Basit are being treated in the hospital.
