Sialkot, May 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): On May 30, 2023 Mr. S.M. Tanveer, Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce, Energy, Investment and Skill Development (ISI and SD) visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Malik, President SCCI presented the welcome address to the Honourable Minister. He appreciated the formation of the Punjab Chambers of Commerce Coordination Committee in order to resolve the issues faced by the Business Community. During the meeting, some necessary submissions were made to the honourable Minister.
The President requested to restore the status of canceled plots of Exporters in EPZ Sialkot. He also requested an extension of 2 years for the construction of Industrial Unites in EPZ Sialkot. Moreover, he requested the abolition of late construction charges from the exporters of Sialkot. He informed us that notification of BOM of EPZ is still pending, and requested that the process be completed as soon as possible so that development work could be initiated at EPZ Sialkot.
Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Malik, President SCCI stated the importance of renovation and operationalization of the Sports Goods Materials Testing Lab in EPZ Sialkot. He emphasized that PC-II from PSIC of amounting to PKR 900 million has already been submitted to the Government of Punjab for approval. He requested to the Honourable Minister for the release of funds for the said project on an immediate basis.
President SCCI informed that Section-V of Sialkot Industrial Zone, at Sahuwala- Sambrial is pending, due to the non-formation of BOM of Punjab Industrial Estate Development Management Company (PIEDMC). He requested the Minister to ask the concerned to expedite the process for further action.
He said that Additional Property tax on the properties situated on highways is an added financial burden on the exporters of Sialkot. He requested that Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) should ask that keeping in view Section 10 of the Punjab Finance Act 2019, export Industrial Units should be excluded from the property tax.
He shared that the Industry of Sialkot is 100% export oriented which included only 2% rate of services, which are from Freight Forwarders, Clearing Agents, Auditors, Tax Consultants. He also informed that above mentioned services sectors are already registered with PRA, and have no loss to the department. He requested the Minister that export-oriented Units of Sialkot should be excluded from the withholding Sales Tax on Services Sector.
He requested that PKR 1000 million should be given for the completion of Sialkot- Pasrur Road keeping in view the importance of the Road for the Industrial Units located on it. Mr. S.M. Tanveer, Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce, Energy, Investment and Skill Development (ISI and SD) assured that all the issues would be addressed on a priority basis for the facilitation of the Sialkot Business Community. Upon special instructions of the Honourable Minister, notification of S.I.E. II and S.I.E III Board of Management (BOM) was also issued during the meeting.
