Islamabad:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Core Committee on Monday endorsed the decision of nominating Chaudhry Parvez Elahi of PML-Q as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

The endorsement came at a meeting of PTI core committee held under the chairmanship of Imran Khan in Islamabad following PTI’s landslide victory in Punjab by-election with 16 seats of the provincial assembly against PML-N which could secure only four seats.

In the meeting, the party also hailed the historic success in the Punjab by-elections. The participants also reviewed the future organizational and political strategy of the PTI and decided that attention will be given to local and by-elections in Sindh. PTI won Punjab by-elections with a lanslide victory on Sunday as it clinched 16 seats while the PML-N got only four seats while PPP did not took part in the polls.

It may be noted that the Supreme Court has announced recently that the election of new chief minister of Punjab will take place on July 22 after by-election of 20 July. The opposition parties had also reached consensus to hold election for the province’s chief executive after by-elections in 20 constituencies.

The 20 seats fell vacant after 25 PTI lawmakers were deseated by ECP for voting PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz in the Punjab chief minister’s election. The by-elections were held in 20 constituencies of Punjab Assembly.
