ISLAMABAD:Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan should present himself for accountability if he considers himself innocent.
In a statement, she said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which is an independent institution, had arrested Imran Khan in accordance with law and the government had nothing to with it.
The Minister said PML-N does not believe in vengeance and if we had any plan of arresting Imran Khan, we would have done it earlier. She said it is PML-N led coalition government that amended NAB laws to facilitate the accused persons and Imran Khan is the first beneficiary of these amendments.
She strongly denounced how PTI reacted to Imran Khan's arrest and wreaked havoc in the country. She said PTI had pre-planned the violence and incited it at targeted places.
The Minister added that evidence has been collected and all those involved in or behind the violence have been identified and will be brought to book.
About Pakistan Democratic Movement's (PDM) protest at Constitution Avenue in Islamabad on Monday, she said the demonstration will be peaceful.
The PDM on Friday had announced staging a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Monday, claiming that the top judiciary was giving undue facilitation to PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had said the protest will be held “against the behaviour of the Supreme Court”. The PDM chief had called upon the supporters to reach Islamabad for the sit-in.
