Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh on Friday pointed to alarming figures released by the World Bank, stating that Pakistan’s poverty rate has reached 44.7%, with more than half the population now living below the poverty line.
In a statement, Sheikh highlighted the country’s increasingly dire economic conditions, asserting that Pakistan is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy due to the governance of those lacking public endorsement.
Sheikh criticized the current administration for its incompetence and corruption, noting that their mismanagement has driven the economy into disarray. He cited alarming statistics from the World Bank that show a majority of the population living below the poverty threshold. This grim reality.
The PTI Sindh chief further elaborated on the hardships faced by the public, pointing to escalating inflation and burdensome taxation policies. The government’s collection of up to Rs80 per litre in petroleum levies, he said, has only intensified the economic burden on citizens, making daily life increasingly untenable.
Sheikh also slammed the so-called ‘Form 47 governments,’ describing them as a travesty of the people’s choice and accusing them of causing irreparable harm to the national economy. He argued that during PTI’s tenure, poverty had significantly decreased, whereas the current regime has undone previous advancements.
In conclusion, Sheikh advocated for the reinstatement of Imran Khan’s leadership as the sole route to economic stability and recovery. He underscored the importance of political stability as a cornerstone for economic rejuvenation, urging for a shift in leadership to steer the nation back on track.
