Punjab approves heavy fines against smog

LAHORE:The Punjab caretaker cabinet Monday approved the rules regarding smog. For the first time, a brick kiln without zig-zag technology will be fined from Rs100,000 to Rs500,000. A vehicle causing smog on the road will be fined Rs4,000. There will be a fine of Rs10,000 for burning garbage.

Factories causing smog will be fined up to Rs500,000. A fine of Rs200,000 to Rs500,000 will be imposed over toxic gas and smog in the air. Earlier, these penalties did not exist in the law. The caretaker cabinet approved the rules in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The Punjab Environment Protection Department will issue a notification after the approval of the cabinet’s minutes.
