LARKANA: During the recent rains in Larkana district, there has been extensive damage and the Sindh government has established relief and medical camps at various places for the rehabilitation and immediate assistance of the people affected by the rains where all the facilities and free medicines are being provided to the affected people.
This was claimed by the deputy commissioner, Larkana, Tariq Manzoor Chandio, in a handout issued here on Tuesday. He said that in all the talukas of Larkana District, Ratodero, Larkana, Dokri and Baqrani, 10% of the houses have been completely damaged and 50% of the houses have been partially damaged and as a result of the recent heavy rains, 367 people were injured and 36 people died and 89 cattle were killed in the above mentioned talukas.
A total of more than 680,000 families have been affected during heavy rains. He further claimed that in this regard, till now all the elected representatives of the region are monitoring the relief activities in their respective areas and their efforts are continuing for the earliest possible rehabilitation of the victims. It must be mentioned here that the dewatering process from Larkana was continuing even on Tuesday which has not been completed as yet which proves the incompetence of the district administration.
It was revealed when this scribe visited a few areas of the city. Government employees irrespective of their grade who are staying in government bungalows and quarters are in deep trouble as stagnant rainwater was drained out of one colony and thrown in other residential areas of government servants whereas the same water could have been drained easily in Rice Canal had the relevant authorities procured more pipes.
Electricity fluctuation was very common and the residents complained that supply was unavailable for five continuous days which also complicated the situation. Shopkeepers are also in deep trouble as standing water has not yet been cleaned out of the bazaars due to which their business has suffered a lot. The residents have demanded establishing good governance by ignoring politically influential officers who must be transferred out of Larkana without loss of further time.
