Rally held in Islamabad in support of Kashmiris

Islamabad, September 04, 2019 (PPI-OT): A rally was held in Islamabad, today, to express solidarity with the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir. The rally took place at D-Chowk and it was attended by Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Syed Fakhar Imam and others including Pakistan’s political leaders and activists, civil society members and Hurriyat leaders.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Syed Fakhar Imam strongly condemned the harsh curbs and communication blackout imposed in occupied Kashmir since August 5 following the abrogation of the territory’s special status by the BJP-led Indian government. He said that this clampdown has forced the Kashmiri people to confine to their homes, making life miserable for them. He said that Pakistan has a stance on Kashmir and that all the Pakistanis including the Government, army and people are on the same page when it comes to support the people of Kashmir in their just struggle.

He said that India has no choice but to acknowledge the struggle of Kashmiris, while at the same time the international community should put pressure on India to give the people of the occupied territory their legitimate rights. He said that the atrocities being perpetrated against the Kashmiris have exposed India’s real face before the world and voices supporting the Kashmiris’ struggle can be heard from different places across the globe. He lamented that more than one lac people have fallen to Indian bullets so far and thousands of women have been molested.

Hurriyat leaders speaking on the occasion said that the dispute over Kashmir should be resolved according to the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and in line with the UN resolutions. They maintained that India can’t suppress the Kashmiri people by resorting to brutal killings, arrests, molestation of women, destruction of properties and other means of oppression.

They said that India has violated the UN charter by revoking Kashmir’s special status, stressing India wants to change the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir by settling Hindus from mainland India in the territory. They maintained that the Kashmiri people would thwart Indian designs, come what may.
