The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has disbursed Rs 767 million to 383 affectees of the New Metro City Gujar Khan housing project, marking a major success in its efforts to recover public money from a high-profile real estate scam, according to an official information today.
During a formal ceremony held at the NAB Headquarters in Islamabad, cheques were handed over to the individuals who had been defrauded. The event was presided over by NAB Chairman Lt. Gen. (R) Nazir Ahmed and attended by key officials, including Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Ehtesham Qadir Shah, alongside a large gathering of the compensated victims.
The anti-graft watchdog initiated its inquiry in September 2024 after receiving numerous complaints against the management of the housing scheme. The complainants alleged they had made payments for plots but never received their promised properties.
Following timely intervention by the bureau, the administration of New Metro City Gujar Khan consented to refund the money to the affected parties. In addition to the financial reimbursements, 57 other individuals opted to accept plot allotments, which have now been officially processed.
Addressing the attendees, Chairman NAB Lt. Gen. (R) Nazir Ahmed reiterated that the recovery of public funds lost to fraudulent activities remains the bureau’s highest priority. He advised citizens to conduct thorough due diligence before investing their hard-earned savings into any scheme.
The Chairman also lauded the performance of the NAB (Islamabad/Rawalpindi) chapter, attributing the prompt recoveries to the dedication of its officers and investigation team.
Echoing these sentiments, Director General NAB (Islamabad/Rawalpindi) Waqar Ahmed Chauhan highlighted that the return of the looted capital was a testament to the Chairman”s vision for delivering swift justice to ordinary people.
The ceremony concluded with Chairman Nazir Ahmed presenting commemorative shields to the members of the case”s investigation team in recognition of their successful efforts.
