Regional Languages Authority been established to promote mother languages, Iftikhar

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Culture, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that all mother languages were equally respectable for them and for promotion of all the mother languages, the present ANP led government has set up Regional Languages Authority in the province.

This he said while addressing a function held in connection with the International Mothers Languages Day at Nishtar Hall Peshawar on Tuesday. The function was jointly arranged by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture Department and Poha Khprawonkai Jirga. The function besides others was also addressed by the Chairman Textbook Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Fazal Rahim Marwat, Raj Wali Khan Khattak, Sadullah Jan Barq, Rehmat Shah Sail, Habibullah Rafi, Yar Muhammad Maghmoom, Akbar Siyal and Mukhtar Yousafzai and spoke on the importance of mother languages.

The Culture Minister said that due representation will be provided to all these languages according to their status. He said that it was need of the hour to provide equal opportunities of promotion to the languages and cultures of all regional areas which he added, will pave way for national unity and solidarity.

He added that language was identity of a nation and without the identity, the nation loses its authority and for this very purpose, they were intentionally kept without identity for 63 years. He said that inclusion of all mother languages in syllabus and declaring them compulsory from Class-I to 2nd year was a revolutionary step of the government.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain continued that after 18th Constitutional Amendment, preparation of syllabus was provincial subject and now the government has decided to revisit the syllabus for making it in line with the needs of the modern era.

He added that the Pashto subject would be re-introduced in all the education institutions including private institutions as compulsory subject and those who did not acted upon this decision, would be punished accordingly. He said that the government was initiating crash training program for teaching of Pashto subject. He announced that culture would be introduced as subject in the syllabus.

The Minister clarified that the name of this province is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and using name other than Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were committing constitutional crime adding that such criminals would be sternly dealt under the law.
