Release of illegally detained Kashmiris demanded

Srinagar, July 31, 2020 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Socio-Political Activist Movement (JKSPAM) has demanded release of all illegally detained Kashmiris languishing in various jails of the territory and India on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.

The JKSPAM in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the detentions as inhumane and unjustified. It said that most detainees were booked under draconian law, Public safety Act, because of their political belief. It said that the rigid detention policy to send the Kashmiri prisoners outside occupied Kashmir was unacceptable and violation of right of their families to meet them as many families could not afford airfare to travel to jails in India.

The JKSPAM maintained that Eid is a day of hope and happiness for Muslims. Hundreds of Kashmiri mothers are awaiting the release of their sons, it said, adding that the Indian government should revisit its policies and release the Kashmiri detainees on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. It also demanded release of Kashmiri prisoner as there is huge spike in coronavirus cases across India.
