Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab today announced the initiation of Rs10 billion worth of development schemes for the current fiscal year in a meeting with the Baldiyati Reporters Association.

The schemes encompass road construction, park rehabilitation, drainage system upgrades, and broader infrastructure improvements. Mayor Wahab assured the delegation, led by President Shahid Mustafa, that all projects within the Rs. 18 billion Annual Development Program (ADP) will be finalized within the next two years.

Key projects highlighted include the Korangi Causeway, slated for completion by October 15, and ShahraheBhutto, expected to be finished by December 30. Discussions also addressed the redesign of the Islamia College roundabout in Jinnah Town.

He invited reporters to tour the ongoing projects to accurately inform the public about the progress. He emphasized the media’s crucial function as a conduit between the government and citizens.

The restoration of significant recreational areas and cultural landmarks like Bagh IbneQasim, Safari Park, Frere Hall, Garden and Sadequain Art Gallery was also discussed. Frere Hall currently hosts CSS preparatory programs, expanding educational avenues for youth.

Addressing parking issues, the Mayor revealed plans to construct two stateoftheart parking facilities in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Following the refurbishment of Khaliq Dina Hall, Frere Hall, and Empress Market, the Denso Hall and Library have also been renovated and are now open. The KMC is digitizing its assets to document the metropolitan’s heritage and inform future generations about Karachi’s rich past. Baldiyati reporters were invited to visit the renovated Max Denso Hall. The Mayor expressed his desire to see the historical venue host literary, cultural, and educational programs.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the transparent use of funds for Denso Hall’s restoration, reiterating the administration’s commitment to accountability. He also discussed efforts to improve the charged parking system.

Concluding the meeting, Mayor Wahab praised the media”s role in highlighting civic concerns and informing policy improvements. He expressed gratitude for the media’s partnership and reaffirmed the local government’s value for this cooperation.
