ISLAMABAD:The Pakistani government’s special representative to Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, on Wednesday announced his resignation.
Sadiq wrote on Twitter, “After serving close to three years as Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, I have requested the Government that the time had come for me to move on and focus on my personal pursuits – family, books and agriculture/environment.”
He also added that he is grateful to the Prime Minister and stakeholders for their wholehearted support to me as Special Representative for Afghanistan. “I deeply appreciate the hard work of many of my colleagues who spent long hours to make the Pakistan-Afghanistan relationship work,” Sadiq wrote. He added that PM Shehbaz had accepted his resignation.
Earlier in June 2020, Sadiq was chosen for the critical role. Diplomat Sadiq also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Kabul from December 2008 to April 2014. He retired from his post as secretary of the national security division in 2016.
For around 1.5 years, he also worked as the spokeswoman for the Foreign Office. Moreover, he served in Brussels (1994-1998), Beijing (1994-1998), and Washington, DC (1998-2000).
