Saghar expresses concern over continued lockdown in IOK

November 14, 2019

Islamabad, November 14, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, has expressed serious concern over the continued lockdown and communications blockade in occupied Kashmir. Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad denounced the world community for its criminal negligence and silence over the sufferings of Kashmiri people who continue to suffer under the strict siege and communications blackout imposed by India.

He said, “Kashmir is the most unfortunate part of the modern world in which millions of people including men, women and children are being treated like slaves”. He said that over100 days crippling siege had pushed the territory into a quagmire of uncertainty.

The DFP leader pointed out that in addition to humanitarian crisis, the lockdown of the valley had caused the loss of over seven billion rupees to the local economy. He said that the unrelenting siege was being used as a weapon of war against the people of Kashmir who had out rightly rejected the India’s forcible annexation of Kashmir and the bifurcation of the disputed territory.

Expressing his anguish over the world community’s inaction and indifference towards the simmering situation in the held territory, he said that it was indeed a great tragedy that the so-called civilized world had remorselessly chosen to remain silent over the terrible situation in Kashmir valley that has been reeling under unprecedented lockdown. He said that, on one hand, the Kashmir valley had been disconnected from rest of the world while, on the other, rights activists and political leaders of all sorts had been kept under detention.

Urging the international community to shun its policy of indifference and apathy towards Kashmir, the DFP leader said that it was high time that the influential governments across the globe must give top priority to resolution of Kashmir rather than protecting their own economic interests. Calling for early and peaceful settlement of the dispute, he said that the world powers must play due role to mitigate the sufferings of the Kashmiris instead of making them scapegoat to protect their vested interests.
