Sanjrani presides meeting of Board of Governors of PIPS

Islamabad, January 21, 2019 (PPI-OT): The specialized management courses on parliamentary services would be extended across the country. Mandatory trainings would be introduced for not only the employees of the federal government departments and organizations but provincial government services would also be included in these mandatory courses.

This was stated by Chairman Senate, Senator Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani while presiding over the meeting of the Board of Governors of Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services, Islamabad. The meeting was attended by a number of board members including Mir Abdul Quddus Bazenjo, Speaker Provincial Assembly of Baluchistan, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Dr. Fehmida Mirza, MNA, Mr. Naveed Qamar, MNA, Mr. Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, MNA, Ms. Nafeesa Inayat Ullah Khan Khattak, MNA, Ms. Shahida Akhtar Ali, MNA, Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, MNA, Secretary Senate Amjed Pervez Malik, officials of National Assembly and Senate Secretariats. Speaker Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly was also present during the meeting as an observer.

This was the first meeting of the BoG after democratic transition in August, 2018.Chairman Senate/ President PIPS BoG welcomed the participants especially those members who were attending the meeting for the first time. The President BoG, Senator Sadiq Sanjrani, said that the legislators need research and accurate data to perform their legislative role effectively.

He directed the Institute to design courses for the Government Officials to deepen their understanding about the rule and function of the Parliamentary Institutions in the country to ensure that not only such courses are introduced at PIPS but modules of the Institutes offering mandatory trainings to the federal and provincial government employees be amended accordingly.

Executive Director PIPS briefed the members about the progress of activities and apprised about the future course of action to serve the National Parliament and Provincial Legislature in a better way. He said that support provided by all the stakeholders helped the institute achieve its mandated functions and to emerge as a centre of parliamentary services. He also presented the proposed budget for FY 2019-20 and revised budget estimates for the current financial year i.e. 2018-19. The board discussed the proposed agenda in length including the proposed budget and decided to discuss it again during the next meeting to be held within a week.

The annual report of the institute for the FY 2017-18 was presented before the Board which was approved to be laid in the Parliament. The Chairman Senate/ President PIPS BoG appreciated the contributions made by the members during the meeting and thanked them again for their participation.
