ISLAMABAD:The Supreme Court on Sunday issued notices to all the stakeholders of the no-confidence motion and the Attorney General of Pakistan on the hearing pertaining to the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s suo moto notice.
A three-member SC bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ejaz ul Hassan, and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar held a short hearing of the suo moto notice. The bench issued instructions that the judges would decide to take notice of what happened in the assembly. All state institutions should refrain from taking any illegal action. The law and order situation should not deteriorate. All political parties should ensure law and order.
The SC issued notice to Attorney General and sought a report from the National Assembly Secretary on the matter. The court also issued notice to all the stakeholders of the no-confidence motion. Hearing the case, CJP said they couldn’t do a long hearing due to Ramadan and directed all the public institutes to continue work as per routine.
He said he took suo moto notice following the current situation in the country and tomorrow they will hear the argument of all the parties who are stakeholders of the no-confidence motion. Later the apex court of the country adjourned the hearing till tomorrow. It is pertinent to mention here that the Chief Justice of Pakistan today took suo moto notice of dissolution of National Assembly by the President and formed a special bench to look into the matter.
Earlier today, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri rejected the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan and declared it against Article 5 of the Constitution. Subsequently, the Prime Minister in a short address to the nation advised the President to dissolve assemblies following which the president dissolved the National Assembly.
