ISLAMABAD:A petition seeking an inquiry into a “threat letter” to the Prime Minister Imran Khan was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The petition, making the Federation of Pakistan through the Law and Justice Division Secretary as respondent, was filed by a Supreme Court Advocate Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta. The plea states that it was an “extraordinary situation” which may cause a law and order situation to develop in the country by causing hatred against the friendly countries.
“The situation requires immediate steps to ease the “mental agony” of the common Pakistani caused by the development”, the plea maintained. It said the gravity of the situation needs the attention of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take immediate step to find out the truth about the subject matter. The petition prayed the court to direct the respondent to deliver the “letter” to the concerned civil and military authorities to investigate this threat/letter.
On March 27, in the public meeting of PTI in Islamabad Parade Ground, Prime Minister Imran Khan had pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and waved it at the crowd, claiming that it was evidence of an “international conspiracy” being hatched to topple his government.
He had alleged that foreign funding was being used to change his government, adding that money was coming from abroad and people inside the country were being used. The premier had claimed that some of them were unaware that they were being used and some were intentionally using this money against him. However, the opposition believes that the Prime Minister is using the letter as an excuse to woo the government’s allies and PTI dissidents in the face of the no-confidence motion against him.
