Islamabad, September 16, 2021 (PPI-OT):The second meeting of Board of Governors of Legal Aid and Justice Authority of Pakistan held at Ministry of Human Rights under the chairpersonship of Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari. It was decided in the meeting to appoint a subcommittee which will draft three set of rules i.e. financial, operational and service for Legal Aid Justice Authority of Pakistan within two weeks.
It was further decided that transfer of Women in Distress and Detention Fund for Legal Aid and Justice Authority has already been approved by the cabinet. The transfer of Women in Distress and Detention Fund should not be dependent upon the formulation of rules and the process needs to be expedited.
The Board of Governors also decided to finalise the list of the pro bono lawyers within a week and share with the Legal Aid and Justice Authority. The meeting was attended by Secretary Ministry of Human Rights, Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice, Director General of Legal Aid and Justice Authority and representatives from finance ministry and federal and provincial advocate general offices.
