ISLAMABAD: The second sub-national polio immunization campaign of the current year, launched in June, has achieved ninety-eight percent target.

According to the Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Centre, Polio Eradication Initiative, Dr Shahzad Baig said more than 12.3 million children under the age of five years were inoculated during the campaign in 68 districts in all four provinces of the country.

He said over 100,000 trained and dedicated polio workers were engaged in the vaccination drive. The Coordinator stressed the need of repeated polio vaccination campaigns for building immunity among children and preventing their possible death or lifelong paralysis.
