Karachi, December 18, 2018 (PPI-OT): Secretary Federal Board of Investment Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera, called on Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, on Monday, accompanied by the Executive Director General FBOI Ms. Fareena Mazhar, and discussed on the salient features of the Progress on Dhabeji SEZ (Special Economic Zone) being a priority of CPEK Project. Chairman Sindh Board of Planning and Development Muhammad Waseem, Secretary Home Abdul Kabeer Kazi, and other respective Admin Secretaries and Senior Officials were also present.
A presentation on the assignment under reference, entitled, “Doing Business in Sindh” was given by the Sindh Board of Investment (SBOI), with the specific references of starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, property registration getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across boarders, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency.
It was brought into the notice of the participants, that fifteen(15) reforms were implemented across different departments including SBCA, KW and SB, SEPA (Sindh Environmental Protection Agency) BOR (Board of Revenue) SESSI (Sindh Employees Social Security Institution, Industries, Energy Labour and Excise and Taxation Departments. The reforms pertained to the above departments have been completed.
It may be mentioned that the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone is being developed over an area of 1530 acres of land with the facility of five (05) years tax holiday with the aspect of PPP (Public Private Partnership, to undergo the industrial activities of steel, building material, petrochemical, automotive applied, light engineering, textile and garments, logistics and ware housing.
The utilities viz, electric, gas, auto motion and logistics are being dealt with the K-electric, SSGC, SBCA and Pakistan Railway, while the up gradation of Dhabeji Railway Station is also to be carried out. The Secretary FBOI, appreciated the progress and expressed hope success in the task. The Chief Secretary Sindh asked the Departments of Sindh Government to extend coordinated efforts to this effect. He also assigned the task of Focal Person to Mr. Roshan Shaikh Member BOR who will also look after the affairs of SBOI, being its head till further orders.
Moreover, the Executive D.G. FBOI informed that the Prime Minister will preside a high level meeting on the task on 19th January 2019, which would also be attended by the Chief Minister and Chief Secretaries of all Provinces.
